BRUTUS Naturals — Sandy Blonde, Copper Blonde, Light Ash Brown. No synthetic dyes of any kind. Eight ingredients, every one of them a plant. No PPD, no ammonia, no ethanolamine, no peroxide.
BRUTUS Original — Light Brown, Medium Brown, Dark Brown, Natural Black. PPD-free, but not a plant-only formula. In place of PPD it uses TDS (toluene-2,5-diamine sulfate). Published research (Scheman et al., Dermatitis, 2011) found that most people who are allergic to PPD can tolerate TDS-based color. Some people can still be sensitive to TDS.

Copper Blonde is a warm, red-leaning blonde — the shade for auburn and strawberry hair that goes flat and muddy under standard brown dye. Keeps the copper in.
This one builds. There are no synthetic dyes in it, so the first application blends grey subtly rather than covering it. That's the product working, not failing. Repeat until you reach the coverage you want — usually two or three applications — then it's just maintenance as new growth comes in.
How to use it. Mix the powder with water to a thick paste. Fully saturate the hair, every strand, root to tip. Leave it on at least 30 minutes, or 45 minutes for stubborn or resistant hair. Rinse.
Do it in the evening. Color takes several hours to finish depositing, with full results at 24 hours. Rinse at night, sleep on it, judge it in the morning. Don't reapply before then.
Stains less than our Original line, but still use a barrier — petroleum jelly along the hairline, ears and neck.
